Why is a maternity photoshoot a must for every mom to be?
Simple, photography is about telling a story & there’s no better story than the beginning of a new life. Looking at my moms maternity photos are some of my favourite ones, it was one of the biggest changes in my parents life & the very beginning of my own story.
Planning the maternity photoshoot
First things first, a call with the future mamma to be. In this case, Stephanie told me about her personal style and about her husband. We also talked about the future baby & most importantly what she wanted to get out of her maternity photos. Her style is simple, professional & feminine. She wanted something classic, natural & nothing over done. I sent her a couple options for location that I thought would work & we settled on downtown Kleinberg a gorgeous little town that they live in.
Maternity photoshoot day
We met a cute coffee shop in the downtown area & of course the couple was a little bit nervous to be on camera. The very first thing Stephanie said was “You have to tell us what to do, we have no idea how to be on camera!” The amount of times a client has said that to me… Well honestly I think it’s been every single time & that’s totally OK because that’s my job! All the couple has to do is show up, trust me I’ve done this before and I know how to direct and pose people so they look the absolute best on camera!
We found a couple beautiful spots that we took a variety of shot in, I directed the couple posing them with lots of hands on the belly, because that’s of course the most important part of maternity shots!
How I get those candid maternity shots?
First of all I’m a talker so I’m constantly making jokes and always use my secret prompts to get those natural smiles & laughter to come out for the camera. Just by looking at these shots you’d never guess that this couple gets nervous in front of a camera.
