Why is a maternity photoshoot a must for every mom to be?
Simple, photography is about telling a story & there’s no better story than the beginning of a new life. Looking at my moms maternity photos are some of my favourite ones, it was one of the biggest changes in my parents life & the very beginning of my own story.
Planning the lakefront maternity photoshoot
First things first, location. In this case, the couple knew they wanted they’re pictures on the lakefront. Lucky for us in the GTA, they’re so many options for lakefront spots. I gave the couple a few recommendations of my favourite photo sessions spots & they decided on Jack Darling Memorial Park in Burlington, Ontario. The next most important aspect in a photoshoot is the wardrobe. I always give any of my clients a list of basic rules when it come to what looks great on camera. Lakefront maternity photoshoot day
We met in the parking lot of the park & of course the couple and family was nervous to be on camera. The very first thing Ochia said was “You have to tell us what to do, we have no idea how to be on camera!” The amount of times a client has said that to me… Well honestly I think it’s been every single time & that’s totally OK because that’s my job! All the clients have to do is show up, trust me I’ve done this before and I know how to direct and pose people so they look the absolute best on camera!
We found a couple beautiful spots that we took a variety of shot in. I directed the couple first then added in the family members & of course some solo shots of the momma-to-be. This gives the family a wide variety of pictures, in multiple locations.
How I get those candid maternity shots?
First of all, I’m a talker so I’m constantly making jokes and always use my secret prompts to get those natural smiles & laughter to come out for the camera.
