Modelling Agency Standard Submission Requirements:

Most of the top agencies will ask for 3-5 digitals (images) with your application including:
  • Headshot/ Close Up
  • Side Profile/ Shoulder Up 3/4 Profile
  • Full Length
Sometimes they will also ask for:
  • Waist Up
“Digitals” Agency Styling Standards
  • The setting should be neutral and natural, never an artificial set or staged backdrop.  (a white wall is standard)
  • Form fitting clothing that is going to allow them to see your body shape.
Most Top Modelling Agencies recommend:
  • Skinny Jeans and a black tank top
  • No big jewellery or accessories
  • None or minimal/natural makeup

YOUR BOOK (aka. Your Modeling Portfolio)

These are the photos  that will get you signed by agencies and get you hired by clients. Don’t think that will happen, if your photos aren’t great and if they don’t sell your ability to model.

Your Modelling Portfolio Book Industry Standards:
  • Should be 9×12 inches.
  • No ring binding
  • The cover must be black, and the pages should be easy to flip through.
  • 20 pages for 40 photos, but less is fine, especially when starting out.
  • Only contain high-quality professionally taken images.

Building a killer modelling portfolio

1. Identify your look.

There are many different types of models: commercial modelling, plus-size modelling, swimsuit/lingerie, fitness,  beauty ect.

2. Identify the gaps.

As important as it is to capitalize on your modelling strengths, your book also showcases your range as a model by showing a variety of looks within your genres.

3. Do your research.

Check out some of the best modelling agency’s websites. Go through their model portfolio books to see the images they use. This can give you ideas for your own shoot.

4. Work with professional talent.

As tempting as it is to watch a YouTube tutorial and do your own makeup or get your friend with a nice camera to take some shots. It won’t cut it in the competitive industry. If you want to be a professional, work with professionals.
