How to pick a photographer for a modelling portfolio  

  1. Look for business websites. As much as new photographers can be very talented, when your looking to become a professional, you need to work with professionals. 
  2. Make sure your choosing a photographer that can professionally retouch. Retouching makes a huge difference.  
  3. Look for images that you love. When trying to select a photographer it’s important to resonate with their work. Every photographer has their own specialties and their own vision and editing  style.

The power of a great MUA & Hairstylist

They are often another creative force behind your shoot. They will come up with ideas that you probably would never think of, or enhance the ideas you & your photographer have. The moment you start working with an MUA, you’ll see an immediate jump in your image quality.

How to find the right MUA & Hairstylist

1. Look for professional websites. This is my number one tip, for well… just about everything. Work with professionals, if you want to be one. It’s okay to practice and work with all kinds of talent. But remember your modelling portfolio, is your first impression. It’s whats going to get you signed & book you jobs.

2. Look at their personal style. Decide if it fits with the shoot your looking to have in your book. Some people are great at dynamic loud makeup others are better at soft & natural looks. Know what you want, going into any consultation.

If your working with professional talent, most likely they’ve done this a million times before and are familiar with collaborating with all kinds of talent.

PRO TIP: Create a shared mood board with all the talent. This makes sure everyone is on the same page, with the goal and look of the shoot. Also a great way to get everyones creative input.
